Barcelona 2021 Champions League

Kylian Mbappe Stars as PSG Thrash Barcelona in Champions League

Mbappe Fires Hat-trick as Barca Suffer Humiliating Defeat

Paris Saint-Germain inflicted a devastating 4-1 defeat on Barcelona in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 tie on Tuesday, with Kylian Mbappe stealing the show with a stunning hat-trick.

Mbappe Makes History

Mbappe became only the third player to score a Champions League hat-trick against Barcelona, after Faustino Asprilla in 1997 and Andriy Shevchenko in 2006. The French superstar opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, receiving a pass from Angel Di Maria and firing a low shot past Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Barca Struggle to Respond

Barca, already reeling from a 3-0 home loss to Bayern Munich in their opening Champions League match, failed to find their rhythm. Lionel Messi, their talismanic captain, was largely anonymous and failed to make a significant impact on the game.

Moise Kean Adds to Barca's Misery

After Mbappe's second goal in the 65th minute, Moise Kean added another in the 70th to further compound Barca's misery. Mbappe completed his hat-trick with a clinical finish in the 85th minute, leaving Barca facing an almost insurmountable task in the second leg.

Messi Fails to Deliver

Messi's failure to inspire his teammates was a major disappointment for Barca fans. The Argentine has been in impressive form domestically, but he has struggled to replicate that form in Europe this season.

PSG Dominant Performance

PSG's performance was a masterclass in attacking football. Neymar and Di Maria were both in fine form, creating numerous chances for Mbappe to exploit. The French champions will be confident of completing the job in the second leg and advancing to the quarter-finals.
