Alcaraz Overcomes Sinner in Indian Wells Semi-Final

Rain Delays Start of Match

After three holds opened their Saturday BNP Paribas Open semi-final showdown, light rain forced Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner off the court in the early stages of the match. When play resumed, the players traded holds and breaks, with Sinner eventually holding for a 5-4 lead. However, Alcaraz was able to break back immediately, and the set went into a tiebreak. Alcaraz won the tiebreak 7-3, taking the first set.

Alcaraz Secures Victory

The second set was much closer, with both players holding serve until 3-3. Alcaraz then broke Sinner's serve, and held his own serve to take a 5-3 lead. Sinner broke back to reduce the deficit to 5-4, but Alcaraz held his serve to take the second set 6-4.

Sinner broke back to reduce the deficit to 2-1, but Alcaraz broke back immediately, and held his own serve to take a 4-1 lead. Alcaraz then held his serve to take the third set 6-2, and secure a place in the final.

Djokovic Retains World No. 1 Ranking

The player who loses the Indian Wells semi-final will be unable to overtake Novak Djokovic in the world rankings. Djokovic will remain World No. 1 regardless of the outcome of the tournament.

Alcaraz Ends Sinner's Winning Streak

Alcaraz's victory snapped Sinner's 19-match winning streak, and ended the Italian's perfect 16-0 start to the 2024 season.
